ARTIST STATEMENT
I think there has been a switch in consumer awareness, and it has people questioning the images that are being presented to them everyday. It seems like people are becoming more aware that the medium of photography has also been historically used as a weapon against its viewer. This inevitably leaves people having to reconcile with what their own reality is when they can't trust perception, or the familiar one that was constructed for them through the use of photographic imagery.
Within my work, I aim to use this knowledge and internal process of critical reflection to question the purpose of a manipulated image. These images are constructed using common photography softwares like Adobe Photoshop, CaptureOne, or various image based generative AI resources. In my latest projects, I weave together personal narrative with larger social convention traps that relate to the expectation and perception of identity. To what point should you trust a photo, or your perception?
When shooting commercially, I always ask myself how can I convey an event, person, or moment as honestly as possible. My personal style of photography, framing of images, composition, and post-processes are aspects of my practice I constantly reflect on, and question how they show up when representing my clients.
